RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) (Paused until further notice)

RYLA in District 5110 is a 5.5 day leadership development camp for 144 high school sophomores who have demonstrated leadership qualities or leadership potential, as determined by their schools and Rotarian sponsors. Camp takes place from Saturday through Thursday of the last full week in June, at Grove Camp in Dorena, Oregon. Led by professional facilitators from True North Consulting, RYLA employs an active, age-appropriate curriculum designed to challenge and develop collaborative leadership skills. Campers participate in counselor-led, small group activities and reside in rustic lodges supervised by cabin counselors, many of whom are RYLA alums and/or Rotaractors. RYLA participation is made possible by full scholarships from sponsoring Rotary clubs, at no cost to campers or families.

With careful consideration and significant sadness, District 5110 has made the difficult decision to cancel in-person Camp RYLA for 2021. Our current environment is simply too uncertain to allow us to plan for camp and implement our RYLA program in a safe, healthy and productive manner.

Every other Rotary district in the western United States and Canada has reached the same conclusion. We are working with other districts to develop a virtual RYLA experience for District 5110 – on January 23, Zone 26/27 will host a Zoom seminar showcasing successful virtual RYLA events. We hope to learn for their experiences and craft a RYLA for District 5110 that will reach young leaders in an effective and meaningful way. We expect that Interact and Rotaract will have significant roles in our virtual RYLA.

While we are profoundly disappointed, we have reserved Grove Camp for RYLA 2022.
