RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards)
RYLA in District 5110 is a 5.5 day leadership development camp for 144 high school sophomores who have demonstrated leadership qualities or leadership potential, as determined by their schools and Rotarian sponsors. Camp takes place from Saturday through Thursday of the last full week in June, at Grove Camp in Dorena, Oregon. Led by professional facilitators from True North Consulting, RYLA employs an active, age-appropriate curriculum designed to challenge and develop collaborative leadership skills. Campers participate in counselor-led, small group activities and reside in rustic lodges supervised by cabin counselors, many of whom are RYLA alums and/or Rotaractors. RYLA participation is made possible by full scholarships from sponsoring Rotary clubs, at no cost to campers or families.
NOTE: IN-PERSON CAMP RYLA HAS BEEN REPLACED WITH A VIRTUAL CAMP
With careful consideration and significant sadness, District 5110 has made the difficult decision to cancel in-person Camp RYLA for 2021. Our current environment is simply too uncertain to allow us to plan for camp and implement our RYLA program in a safe, healthy and productive manner. Every other Rotary district in the western United States and Canada has reached the same conclusion.
The Good News:
We are delighted to announce that a fully developed, field-tested virtual RYLA program is coming to District 5110 — application deadline is March 15, 2021 for students. March 24 is the deadline for clubs to make final sponsorship decisions. It’s an exciting and engaging leadership retreat for high school sophomores and juniors – it is highly interactive and uses multiple tools to inform, engage, and connect participants.
