Rotarian Kieran Walsh of Eugene Delta Rotary and Camille Ronzio of Eugene Southtowne Rotary were part of a Rotary Friendship Exchange to Peru. Rotary District 4455 is in Peru including the towns of Cusco, Arequipa and Lima. While there we met Jessica Liñán, who now is grants chair and Elizabeth Tordoya, a Rotaract president in Peru District 4455. Elizabeth contacted Kieran Walsh with her worries about her parents who were serving as doctors in a highly infected hospital near Lima. They did not have enough masks, so she asked Walsh for his help in getting needed masks to doctors working in this hospital where there was an acute shortage. Voila, the Lima hospital now has masks for its doctors and medical staff. (Coincidentally, this is the same district where the Florence Rotary club, as the international partner, successfully helped secure ventilators for hospitals.) “It’s amazing what Rotary can accomplish with these exchange partnerships,” said Ronzio. The grants chair of that Peru district 4455 – Jessica Liñán — hopes to visit Oregon and the Florence Rotary Club within the next year to extend her personal thank you for their response.
